Sundar Pichai
CEO at Alphabet Inc.
Sundar Pichai (born June 10, 1972) is a notable Indian-American business executive who currently holds the position of CEO at Alphabet Inc. As a young boy, Sundar grew up in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. He attended Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School and Vana Vani School for his early education. He was raised in a family where his father was an electrical engineer who also owned an electrical component manufacturing plant, and his mother was a stenographer. After completing his schooling, Sundar Pichai went on to earn a degree in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur in India. Furthering his education, he pursued a M.Sc in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University in the US. He continued his academic journey and also completed his Master's in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Career
Sundar Pichai started his professional career as a materials engineer at McKinsey for a short while. Later, in 2004, he joined Google and was involved in several projects, such as product management and innovation. In the meantime, he found himself playing a key role in developing client software products like Google Chrome, Chrome OS, Google Drive, Google Maps, and Gmail. In 2015, Sundar Pichai was appointed as the CEO of Google, and within a few months (in October of the same year), he was promoted to the CEO of Alphabet Inc. Professionally, Sundar Pichai has performed remarkably well. In 2017, he was appointed to the list of Alphabet's Board of Directors. Furthermore, he also found his name in the 100 most influential people’s list by the Times Magazine in both 2016 and 2020.
