Andrew Witty is the chairman of the UnitedHealth Group and chief executive officer of Optum. He was recently named CEO in February 2021. Andrew is also a member of the UnitedHealth Group board of directors.

Career

Currently, Andrew is a businessman with 8 companies and is designated as the CEO and a member of the Board of Directors at UnitedHealth Group. But Andrew started his career a long time ago. He was a management trainee at Glaxo UK in 1985. He worked in different positions in the UK, like the director of pharmacy & distribution at Glaxo pharmaceuticals UK. Andrew was the CEO and director of GlaxoSmithKline plc from 2008-2017. Before holding the position of CEO, he worked as the president of GSK Europe.

Besides this, Andrew is a former chancellor of the University of Nottingham (a British public research university) and participated in the Singapore Prime Minister’s Research. He became the chairman of the Imperial College Business School Advisory Board chairman in November 2020.

Andrew witty took unpaid leave for one year in April 2020 to help the World Health Organization amid Covid to develop the Covid vaccination. The same year, he was allotted to the advisory group for the UK Government vaccine task force. Then, in 2021, he was allotted to the pandemic preparedness partnership.

Personal life

Andrew Witty was born in Beverley, England, on August 22, 1964. He was educated at the University of Nottingham, where he earned a degree in biology in 1985. Witty has been married to Tessa Witty since 1990, and they have two children together. He is known for his passion for sports, particularly rugby, and football (soccer), and has been involved in coaching youth teams.

Witty is also an advocate for global health issues and has served on various international health organizations, including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. In 2012, Witty was awarded a knighthood for his services to the pharmaceutical industry and to the UK economy. He is now known as Sir Andrew Witty. Witty enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and reading in his free time.
