Steven H. Collis is a South African-born American businessman currently the Chairman, President, and CEO of AmerisourceBergen Corporation, a Fortune 11 pharmaceutical wholesaler.
Career
Collis graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, with a bachelor's degree in commerce. He started his career as an accountant for KPMG in South Africa. In 1987, Collis joined Merck & Co., holding various finance and operational roles in South Africa and the United States.
He joined AmerisourceBergen in 1994 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 2001, Collis became the President and Chief Operating Officer of AmerisourceBergen. He was promoted to President and CEO in 2011 and appointed Chairman of the Board in 2016. Under his leadership, AmerisourceBergen has grown to become one of the largest pharmaceutical distributors in the world, with over $180 billion in annual revenue. Collis is a member of the Board of Directors of United Rentals, Inc. and serves on the Executive Committee of the Pharmaceutical Distribution Security Alliance.
He is also a member of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer and serves on the Board of Trustees of Drexel University. In addition to his professional career, Collis is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in healthcare and education. He has donated millions to various charitable organizations, including the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
