Satya Narayana Nadella (born August 19, 1967) dethroned Steve Ballmer as the CEO of Microsoft in 2014. He was born in Hyderabad, India, into a Telugu-speaking family. His father was an IAS officer, while his mother was a Sanskrit lecturer. Nadella attended Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, for his high school education. After his schooling, he pursued electrical engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka, India. He later moved to the United States to complete his MS in computer science at the University of Wisconsin. He then pursued an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in the same year.
Career
Prior to becoming CEO, Nadella played a significant role in running and developing Microsoft's computing platforms as the Vice President of Microsoft's Cloud and Enterprise Group. Under his leadership, Microsoft experienced a period of strong growth, with its market value increasing by over $1 trillion. Nadella has been instrumental in expanding Microsoft's operations, making strategic acquisitions such as LinkedIn and GitHub.
In 2021, Satya Nadella was appointed as the Chairman of Microsoft, succeeding John W. Thompson. He has also been recognized as one of the world's top CEOs by publications such as Fortune and Forbes. Nadella's leadership style has been described as empathetic and collaborative, with a focus on creating a positive work culture. Nadella has been a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in the technology industry and has spearheaded initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide. He has been a strong proponent of using technology to address global challenges, such as climate change and healthcare.
Personal Life
In 1992, Nadella married Anupama, the daughter of his father's IAS batchmate. Anupama was also a junior at the Manipal Institute of Technology, pursuing a bachelor's degree in architecture. Satya Nadella and his family currently reside in Clyde Hill and Bellevue, Washington. The couple has three children. Sadly, their son passed away due to cerebral palsy in February 2022. Nadella is an avid reader of Indian and American poetry and has a passion for cricket. Together with his wife, he owns a Major League Soccer club called "Seattle Sounders FC." He has also authored a book called "Hit Refresh," which details his life, career, and beliefs in technology.
