Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14, 1984), an American entrepreneur and business magnate, is widely known for founding one of the most popular social media platforms, Facebook. Zuckerberg serves as the controlling shareholder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Facebook, which is now known as Meta Inc.
Mark Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York, USA, and grew up in a Reform Jewish household in New York with his three sisters. His great-grandparents were Jewish emigrants from Poland, Germany, and Austria. Zuckerberg attended Ardsley High School before attending Phillips Exeter Academy. Later on, he pursued his degree at Harvard University, where he and his roommates got together to create Facebook, an idea that was initially meant for college campuses only.
Career
In 2012, Facebook grew rapidly and reached one billion users, leading Zuckerberg to take the company public in May of the same year. His success made him the youngest self-made billionaire in 2007. Mark has also been quite fond of philanthropy. He has used his earnings to organize various philanthropic activities, including the Zuckerberg Initiative. In 2008, he made it to the list of the world's top 100 most influential people. In December 2016, he was ranked 10th on the Forbes list of the world’s most powerful people. As of 2021, Zuckerberg is the third-richest American citizen with a wealth of $57.7 billion and was ranked 11th on the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans.
Zuckerberg's dominance in the technology industry has attracted a lot of political and legal attention, mainly due to multiple lawsuits surrounding the Facebook website. He also co-founded the pro-immigration lobbying group FWD.us in 2013, further establishing his commitment to philanthropy and social justice.
