History

ESET is a software company that develops cybersecurity software. The company makes products in Europe and serves worldwide (approximately 200 countries). The company’s software is localized into more than 30 different languages. ESET was founded in 1992 in Bratislava, Slovakia, but the foundation was laid in 1987 by developing the antivirus program NOD by Peter Pasko and Miroslav Trnka. This program sparked an idea to protect PC users and resulted in an antivirus software company.

In 1992, Rudolf Hruby, Peter Pasko, and Miroslav Trnka established ESET. The company launched a blog site named WeLiveSecurity in 2013. This blog site was dedicated to security-related topics. Later in 2017, the company released a documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of its first security product. It was to describe the evolution of the company. The company also partnered with Google for the Chrome Cleanup project.

In 2018, the company partnered with No More Ransom. It was a global initiative that offered decryption keys for ransomware victims so that they won’t have to pay attackers. Several national police forces and Interpol joined this project. ESET has several technologies to deal with the ransomware threat. The company has become a founding member of the App Defense Alliance with Google. Eset has 22 branches and local distributors all around the world.

The company offers security products for business and home users. The product covers operating systems across mobile, cloud, and server deployments. ESET launched its first product, named NOD32 1.0, in 1998 and later released a newer version, 2.0, in 2003. In 2007, the company released its 3rd version named ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security. Both products had a firewall and antispam modules in them. Later in 2010, ESET released products related to macOS.

ESET introduced two-factor authentication in 2015 and Endpoint Encryption in 2017. The program offers virtual disk, email, folder, and file encryption. The company also partnered with NTT Ltd., Black Lotus Labs, and Microsoft for a special project.
